WHALE FESTIVAL HELICOPTER FLIGHTS

Besides watching whales from the shore, why not view them from the air?

Base4 Aviation, as part of the Hermanus "Enviro-Arts" Festival, offers passengers the once in a lifetime opportunity to view these majestic animals from above in the comfort and style of a helicopter. When viewed from the sky, you not only see many more whales, but you get to view the cows and calves in great detail. You will also be blown away by the sightings and breathtaking scenery en route from Die Plaat Beach, De Kelders and return via the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

Flights will be scheduled on 3, 4 and 5 October between 09:00 and 17:30, and will depart from Sea and Sand at Prawn Flats. Pre-advance booking is essential.

Contact Jarrett Booysen or Francois Koenig at jarret@base4.co.za or fuzzy@base4.co.za, or dial 021 934 4405. The flight duration is 20 minutes and takes a minimum of four people per flight. The cost is R1 200 per person.

"SEPTEMBER IN HERMANUS"

Hermanus Botanical Society Flower Festival 2014.....

Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th September at the Fernkloof Nature Reserve.

This year's exiting theme will be Plant explorers, then and now. Exhibition spaces within the wall will recreate the world of the early traveller amazed at the floral wealth to be discovered in this area, and will contrast the techniques used in the discovery of new plants, still taking place, where records are kept  using digital photography and global positioning.

Hundreds of local flower specimens will be displayed and named, and indigenous flower bunches and plants will be for sale. Within the marquee, local interest groups, craft and food stalls will be found, while small show gardens light up the amphitheatre lawns. There are plenty of activities planned for the children. And delicious teas and lunches will be available throughout the festival. Entrance fees are R20 with children under 12 welcomed free.
